How do you decide which style of window treatment is right for your windows? Window treatment terminology can be overwhelming, so here is a short description of some of the more popular styles:
- Rod pocket – the drapery rod slips through a pocket
- Tab top – the drapery rod slips through a loop of fabric
- Pinch pleat – the drapery pleat is tacked or stitched only at the bottom
- French pleat – the drapery pleat is tacked only at the top
- Box pleat – forms a box at the top
Traverse rods are used for draperies that move. Tie backs may be used to pull draperies to the side, particularly if your draperies are stationary. Consider whether you need sheer or lined draperies, whether you want to allow a lot of light or none at all. There are options available for your every need.
Depending on where you live and the environment around your water supply the water – your water may have a different taste or odor than normal drinking water. Even if your tap water has a normal taste, you may still want to filter your drinking water. All public water sources go through a disinfection process using chlorine or chloramine. The EPA regulates 91 water contaminants, however, municipal water treatment plants do not remove lead or synthetic organic chemicals.
Use of a water filter will remove impurities by use of a physical barrier, a chemical process or a biological process. A filter removes small particles – home filters include granular-activated carbon filters used for carbon filtering. There are many different types of filters:
- Countertop, faucet filters or under counter filters work well for cooking and drinking water
- Shower filters remove chlorine from your bathing water
- Whole house filters work for drinking, cooking, and bathing water (using UV Sterilization)
Chose the water filter or filter system that best meets your needs for safe, clean, good tasting water.
When making your decorating decisions, the most important questions to ask yourself are:
- What makes you feel comfortable?
- What kind of environment do you love and what makes you feel good?
- What makes your house feel like a home?
Whether your style is traditional, contemporary, classic country, or a mixture of styles, you need to consider the above questions before you make any decisions.
Look for common threads in the items that you love – what items do you have now that you love, and which ones would you like to replace? Can you incorporate some of your existing items into your new décor?
Consider the color palette – decorators recommend that one color enhance 60% of your room, and the second color 30% – save the brightest color for the last 10%.
Read some of the home design magazines or research on the internet or Pinterest for ideas. Consider your budget and what you would like to accomplish, but most of all, make sure you will love the result.
